Usborne Book Reviews I did these book reviews for a book fair at my school. I hope you like them as much as i did! Happy Reading! Penny Dreadful Causes a Kerfuffle Ages: 6-11 Author: Joanna Nadin Stars: 4 Ideas need to be thought through first and Penny knows that, but she still isn’t very good at doing it. Penny Dreadful is a problem and everyone, I mean EVERYONE, knows it. Her principal, her parents, her teachers and her friends. In her words, she is a “magnet for disaster.” Problems get bigger when she does experiments… and that happens often. Her “brilliant ideas” are always a recipe for disaster. This funny and interesting story tells the tale of the one and only Penny Dreadful. This story had me giggling and gasping the whole way through. The side pictures helped me understand what was happening. This book is just one in a series of Penny Dreadful tales and I want to try and read more of them. I hope you feel the same too! Happy Reading! The Four-Fingered Man Ages: 5-12 Author: Cerberus Jones Stars: 5 Genre: Action/Adventure/Mystery Moving is almost always hard, but to the creepy old hotel the Walkers are moving to, staying in is going to be harder. After Amelia’s parents buy an old hotel in Forgotten Bay, a mystery appears. Odd things begin to happen, like a hotel guest who arrives, before they open, just to sunbathe when there’s a beach available. When Amelia sees the previous owner, who happens to have four fingers, steal from their customer she and her friend play detective to figure out why. This is the first of many small mysteries Amelia and her friend try to solve. This mysterious tale of two friends trying to solve mysteries is sure to have you on the edge of your seat. The Four-Fingered Man is an action filled adventure that left me screaming in my head and gasping out loud. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did. Happy Reading! I am Jack Author: Susanne Gervay Ages: 7-12 Stars: 5 Sometimes you need to tell your parents what’s happening at school, but Jack thinks he is better off not. Jack is a boy who loves school, his family and photography. But his love of school soon turns to dread when a big bully, George, starts calling Jack “Butt-Head.” Soon all the kids are calling him this terrible nickname and he is having a hard time figuring out what to do. His mom is too busy, and he doesn’t have a dad. He also does not want to be called a tattletale. This story is sure to be a favorite as the last page turns. This story is full of life lessons. This book made me emotional, both sad and angry. I know that when you feel emotional during books they are truly good books. I hope you treasure this book and the lessons it teaches as much as I did! Happy Reading! Fairy Unicorns Magic Forest Ages: 6-10 Author: Zanna Davidson Stars: 4 When Zoe sees her cousin Holly sneak out at night, she decides to go along. While staying at her great-aunt’s house Zoe discovers a magical world full of unicorns. She also learns that Unicorn Island is in trouble. The Unicorn Kingdom has been captured and is being held prisoner. As if that isn’t enough, all the trees are dying and it seems there is nothing the fairy unicorns can do about it. This magical story is a tale about bravery, magic and most importantly…friendship. This book didn’t necessarily fall into my “favorites” section but I still found it an awesome book. I think this book is more appropriate for younger readers. Happy Reading!
